Attendance

Regular attendance is important. Research shows that missing school, even for a single day, can affect a child's attainment and future life chances.

At Standens Barn Primary School, we encourage all pupils to strive for 100% attendance, as every day and every lesson counts.

  • Breakfast Club 8:00am to 8:45am

  • Start of the School Day 8:45am

  • Gates Unlocked for parents 3:00pm

  • Children released from school 3:15pm

  • After School Club (Wraparound Care) 3:15pm to 5:45pm

Reporting an Absence

If your child is unable to attend school due to illness, please contact the school office on each day your child is absent.

If we do not hear from you, our office staff will contact you. If we are unable to make contact, staff may conduct a home visit to ensure your child is safe and well. Once checks have been completed, or within five days, schools must report the child as missing from education to an Education Inclusion Officer.

Department for Education Guidance

All schools must follow Department for Education guidance regarding attendance. This states that children should not miss school except in exceptional circumstances, and schools must continue to take steps to reduce absence and support pupils' attainment.

There are 175 non-school days each year available for holidays, shopping trips and appointments. Therefore, except in extreme circumstances, there should be no need to miss a day of education.

Medical and Dental Appointments

Please arrange dental and medical appointments outside school hours whenever possible.

Our office staff will ask to see evidence of medical appointments. If this cannot be provided, the absence may be recorded as unauthorised.

Collection of Children

The school day finishes at 3:15pm, and children will be released from this time to allow them time to collect their belongings and receive any letters or information to take home. Please wait outside the classroom dismissal area and your child will be released to you. If you are going to be late collecting your child, please telephone the school as soon as possible.

If your child needs to leave school during the day due to exceptional circumstances, please notify the school in advance and then come to the main reception to collect them.

Family Holiday Requests During Term Time

Since September 2013, schools may not authorise holidays during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. If five or more consecutive days of unauthorised leave are taken, you will be referred to the Local Authority and this may result in the issue of a Fixed Penalty Notice.

Penalty Notices

Penalty Notices may be considered in the following circumstances:

  • 5 consecutive days of term-time leave, or
  • 10 sessions of unauthorised absence within a 10-week period (within the same or different academic years).

Penalty Notice fines are issued to each parent, for each child who was absent.
