WELCOME
Dear Parents and Carers,
Whilst it has been a shorter term (it feels like we have not been back very long) we have had lots to fit in with so much happening.
The children have been offered wonderful curriculum opportunities and there are many successes and achievements that we need to celebrate alongside whole-school events, visits and sports competitions.
Next term is incredibly busy with lots of school events, celebrations and more visits. Please read your emails and check our social media regularly to keep up to date with what is happening.
We are so excited to share that the nominations for the Northamptonshire Education Awards 2025 are now open.
We would love to celebrate the achievements that make Standens Barn the BEST place to learn and be recognised for the fantastic work happening in our school.
We remain so grateful for the positive feedback and kind words we receive from you on a regular basis, so we would be thankful if you could use the link below to nominate our school:

Strings Project
Year 3 have begun work on the first access strings project with NMPAT! The children all learnt how to hold an instrument from the string family, including a violin, viola or cello. They all showed such great focus and enthusiasm, particularly as many of them have never played an instrument like these before!

|
Wildlife Explorers
The Zebras and Giraffes began their new theme of Wildlife Explorers by being a giraffe or a zebra. They also had an amazing trip to Woburn Safari Park where they spotted many animals and learnt lots of exciting facts. The children were particularly excited to go on the coach, see the monkeys and to eat their lunch outside!

Giacometti creations
Year 1/2 had a fun WOW day by designing and making sculptures inspired by Alberto Giacometti! The children began by thinking about how we move our bodies. They used their ideas and designs to create a wire sculpture which they then covered in masking tape and paint. The finished products look amazing and many are on display in our gallery space.

Clay Cartouche
Year 5 kicked off their Egyptian topic by making their own clay cartouche. The Egyptians used these in their tombs so that the soul could reunite with the correct person!

Quad Kids Athletics
Well done to the 10-year-4 children for their amazing efforts at the recent athletics competition. They were so positive, well-behaved and appreciative and their were lots of BEST attitudes on show!

Well done to Year 6!
Last week, our Year 6 children all completed their SATs and what an amazing job they did! Whilst we aim to put children at ease and make them feel comfortable, it is the children's first experience of sitting tests in this way, and it can feel very daunting. However, they all faced what was put in front of them with motivation and resilience - skills which will set them in good stead for future challenges. They worked incredibly hard and we are so very proud of them for showing BEST.

It was lovely having familiar faces from Northampton Academy join us in our school as part of their work experience. Four of them were previous pupils at Standens Barn who remember well, and it was great to hear about what they have been up to since leaving primary school. All the students were great examples of BEST- we wish them lots of luck for the future!

Victory in Europe Day 2025
|
|
|
This year celebrates the 80th anniversary of VE day and, on Thursday 8th May, we marked the end of World War 2 in Europe.
We celebrated the occasion by learning about the important people that protected our country and celebrated their history by creating our own museum, as well as exciting pieces of art.
Alongside this, our children were invited to a street party- we all came together and enjoyed a whole school picnic. Following this, the children participated in a variety of activities, games or crafts of their choice.
The day ended with a thoughtful assembly where we remembered those who had helped others, we remembered how war affected families and soldiers and we also waved our flags and sang songs we had been learning. It was a wonderful way to end such a special day.
It was a day that reflected the histories of many of our children and their families and, once again, we had an opportunity to feel immense pride about the diverse community to which we belong.
Thank you to Miss Rockingham and Mr High for organising and planning many of the day's events and thank you to all of you too for the effort you and your children made.

Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Danielle Stone visited our school on April 29th where she held a community safety meeting with our parents and carers.
The Commissioner wanted to hear your genuine views about our community and was pleased with the honest feedback you shared.
Parents were asked how safe they felt living in the area and whether environmental and physical security could be improved.
Themes of concern included young people not having enough to do after school and about feeling unsafe while walking to and from work in Weston Favell when it’s dark.
Other feedback included tackling fly-tipping, vehicle break-ins and tool theft.
The Commissioner was also joined by public safety partners from West Northamptonshire Council and they captured the parents feedback to share with policing leaders.
We are in full support of liaising with the Commissioner and providing a place for our parents and carers to share their suggestions for the local community – change can only happen through a collaborative and responsive approach.
In school, our detailed curriculum is designed to help our children be safe and thoughtful and it is important that these values are upheld by all in the local community. We aim for our children to be aspirational and proud of where they live and the community they belong to, so they have bright and successful futures.

In our assemblies this term, we have celebrated International Design Day. We learnt about the importance of design in our everyday lives. The theme for this year's event was 'Outlandish Optimism'- the children used this idea to each make an individual flower design. All the flowers from across the school will be put together to create a whole school optimistic garden.
We have also used the time to undertake a whole school pupil voice session. This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to share their opinions and views about our curriculum and their learning with the different subject leaders. The children are always reflective and share their feedback articulately and in a BEST manner.

Our classroom assemblies and lessons allow our children to debate comfortably and safely whilst acknowledging that different ideas exist, and we are all different but we all belong.
This term, the children have been sharing and discussing the following books with their teachers:
Reception: The Blue Chameleon
Year 1 and 2: Impossible
Year 3: Beegu
Year 4: Dog's don't do ballet
Year 5: Mixed
Year 6: Mixed

Please be Safe and Thoughtful when collecting or dropping your child(ren) off.
We understand that it can be very stressful in the mornings when we have to be in multiple places but it is vital that ALL car drivers remain courteous to all of those in our community and that they also drive and park within the law to ensure we do not hurt or harm anyone.
The Highway Code Rule 243 states that it is illegal to stop or park near the following:
- near a school entrance (including zig zag lines)
- anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services
- at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank
- on the approach to a level crossing/tramway crossing
- opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
- near the brow of a hill or hump bridge
- opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
- where you would force other traffic to enter a tram lane
- where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles
- in front of an entrance to a property
- on a bend
- where you would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities
