WELCOME
Dear Parents and Carers,
I cannot believe we are at the end of Term 4 already!
We have had an eventful and action-packed term which has included welcoming many special visitors, all the fun at the fair as part of World Book Day, 1980s fever during Red Nose Day and many more wonderful learning opportunities.
Thank you to all of you who completed our most recent online school survey and for the kind words you shared with us, which recognises and celebrates our efforts- your support has a huge impact upon all of those who work at SBPS.
It is so important for us to gain an accurate picture of our school and determine ways we can continue to deliver the best education for your children and to enhance their school experience. I would like to acknowledge that, at times, problems and situations can and do happen. I recognise that we may make mistakes and I also hope you understand we may not always agree. However, I hope that all staff strive to rectify issues quickly and that you feel you can contact staff via email, telephone or at the classroom door and discuss any areas of concern you may have.
All staff in our school are committed to delivering an excellent curriculum, a safe and ambitious environment and to ensure your children can be the BEST that they can possibly be, both now and in the future.
I wish, all of those who celebrate, a happy Easter and hope you all enjoy a restful break. Please remember we will remain closed to children on Tuesday 22nd April as this is a training day. We therefore look forward to welcoming you back on Wednesday 23rd April 2025 at 8:45 a.m ready for the start of the Summer term.
Mrs Amie James

Everyday Heroes
The Zebras and Giraffes had an amazing afternoon with our Community Police officers. They tried on the kit and uniform, learnt about how their kit works, the different vehicles they use and even sat in the back of the van and car! Thank you very much for your time to all the PCSOs who offered their time and to those in the control room who even sent us a special message!

Standens salads!
Year 1 and 2 enjoyed being chefs for the afternoon. They demonstrated being safe when chopping, grating, peeling and slicing their salad.
The end results looked delicious and could easily be eaten in a 5 restaurant!

F1 in Schools 'The Nationals'
On Tuesday 25th March, our F1 teams, Aerobarnamic Racers and Standens Stormers, had an incredible day at Magna Science Centre for the F1 in Schools National Finals. We are all so proud of their bravery in racing their cars, presenting to the judges, being interviewed live on YouTube and exploring the museum. Their BEST attitude, hard work and commitment has been incredible.
The final was incredibly close and with an amazing standard of racing! Well done to them all for their hard and well-earned finishing positions (with one in the top ten!)
Once again, thank you to Mr High and Miss Haines for enabling our children to have this opportunity. A massive thank you to Benn Security and Debbie Reeve for your voluntary contributions, which helped us fund the coach travel.

Sewage Soup!
A brilliant morning was had in Year 4 when they learnt about wonderful water with our visitor Caroline from Anglian Water - Love Every Drop. They used their knowledge from this term to talk about the water cycle and keeping water clean. The children also looked at how to save water in our homes and made ‘Sewage Soup’ to see what can be found down our drains. Yuck!

Red Nose Day 2025
|
|
Since 1985, Comic Relief has inspired the nation to have a laugh while raising cash to help change lives. In schools, offices and homes across the land, everyone wears the latest red nose and takes part in funny events to raise as much money as possible.
This year it is the 40th birthday of Comic Relief and, to commemorate this wonderful achievement, our children and adults were welcome to come to school dressed in outfits from this era. The fashion of the 1980’s was bold, vibrant and eclectic and known for its neon colours, shoulder pads, leg warmers, and lots of accessories. And our school community did not disappoint!
During the day, we held a sponsored danceathon and a Comic Relief festival. It was an absolutely amazing day, full of laughter and happiness, and most of the staff wanted to dress up and remember the 1980s every day (I say most, as some were not even born!)
Thank you for helping to make the day a wonderful one- thank you for the effort you made with costumes and props, for joining in and dressing up too whilst collecting or dropping off your child(ren), for singing and dancing at the school gates and for your generous donations.
In total, we have raised £750!!

SBPS SCHOOL LEADERSHIP TEAM
This term, our school leadership team volunteered their time at the recent parents' evenings and school discos. They demonstrated BEST by being polite, attentive and enthusiastic and helping our families and younger children. World Book Day 2025
All the fun at the fair!

|
|
Once again, our World Book Day celebrations did not disappoint! We began the day by finding clues to what our chosen book may be about, then we all came together to enjoy the fun at the fair, celebrate the written word, beautiful illustrations and the sharing of a fabulous story.
Our chosen text this year was 'The Midnight Fair'- this is a spectacular wordless picture book about the secret lives of animals. When night falls, and the fair is empty, something unexpected happens. Wild animals emerge from the trees, a brave raccoon pulls a lever, and the roller coasters and rides explode back into bright, neon life. Then it’s time for the woodland creatures to have some fun…
It was a day full of enjoyment, awe and wonder. The children were keen to find out what our chosen book was and then keen to participate and become engrossed in the story itself. Each class spent the day sharing the wonderful picture book and creating fabulous writing and artwork.
I would also like to share my praise to all our staff for their efforts to make the day a BEST one!

In our assemblies this term, we have used the book 'All are welcome' to talk about how our actions and words should be Thoughtful and can and should offer others a sense of belonging.

We have continued to focus on what Protected Characteristics are and how we should always demonstrate respect and tolerance towards others so we can have a vibrant and strong community.

Our classroom assemblies and lessons allow our children to debate comfortably and safely whilst acknowledging that different ideas exist, and we are all different but we all belong.
This term, the children have been sharing and discussing the following books with their teachers:
Reception: Super duper You
Year 1 and 2: Hair, it's a family affair
Year 3: Shu Lin's Grandpa
Year 4: Remixed
Year 5: And Tango Makes Three
Year 6: Marlon Bundo

Please be Safe and Thoughtful when collecting or dropping your child(ren) off.
We understand that it can be very stressful in the mornings when we have to be in multiple places but it is vital that ALL car drivers remain courteous to all of those in our community and that they also drive and park within the law to ensure we do not hurt or harm anyone.
The Highway Code Rule 243 states that it is illegal to stop or park near the following:
- near a school entrance (including zig zag lines)
- anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services
- at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank
- on the approach to a level crossing/tramway crossing
- opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
- near the brow of a hill or hump bridge
- opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
- where you would force other traffic to enter a tram lane
- where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles
- in front of an entrance to a property
- on a bend
- where you would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities
