Dear Parents & Carers,
As we come to the end of another school year, I wanted to take a moment to pause and reflect, and most importantly, to thank you.
It has been a truly special year in so many ways. Every day, I feel incredibly proud to see our children arriving with smiles, curiosity and a real enthusiasm for learning. They have shown such resilience, kindness and determination, and it has been wonderful to watch them grow in confidence and independence. They really do bring our BEST values of being Brave, Enthusiastic, Safe and Thoughtful to life in everything they do.
There have been so many moments that have made me smile this year – from performances and sporting events to trips, celebrations and those quieter everyday successes in the classroom. It is these moments, big and small, that make our school such a happy and nurturing place to be.
I would also like to say a heartfelt thank you to you, our parents and carers. Your support, encouragement and partnership make such a difference. Whether it’s helping with learning at home, attending events, or simply ensuring your child arrives ready to learn each day, we are truly grateful.
I am also incredibly thankful to our wonderful staff team, who care so deeply about every child and work tirelessly to give them the very best experiences and opportunities.
As we head into the summer break, I hope you are able to enjoy some special family time, rest and recharge. You truly deserve it.
Thank you for being such an important part of our school community. It is a privilege to work with your children and to share in their journey.

On Wednesday 8th July, we held our Run For Rory event. During the afternoon, the whole school enjoyed outdoor celebrations, including running in relay races, an outdoor disco and a special visit from Pino an his ice cream van! (the scores from these races will also be used to award the house trophies).
The children also cheered on staff as they dressed up in many interesting costumes and raced against each other. From a tutu-wearing hippo and a giant cat to pumpkins, a dinosaur, an axolotl and even a Christmas tree, our staff gave it their all in the Run for Rory teachers’ race… all to raise money for two incredible charities, PASIC and PACT, who help families and children who are receiving lifesaving cancer treatment.
This event is particularly meaningful to our school community as we came together to support Rory, who is currently undergoing treatment and these charities have been chosen by his family. We are incredibly proud of the strength and resilience he is showing, and we would like to do something special to help make a difference.
A huge thank you to you all for your kind donations- we raised a total of nearly £1000! Wow!
Every contribution, no matter how small, will help support the vital work of these charities and show Rory and his family that we are all behind him.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support and kindness- it really means so very much to both us and Rory’s family.

Way Back Home
This term our children in reception have been enjoying the wonderful story The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffers.
The story has sparked their imaginations as they explored space, created amazing moon pictures, and even became Alien Agents on a mission!
It has been fantastic to see so much creativity, teamwork and excitement as the children brought the story to life.

Exciting Changes!
This term, Year 1 and 2 have been learning about changes that happen in nature. As part of this theme, they watched the eggs hatch with excitement and were so eager to hold the chicks.
Year 1 and Year 2 also got creative with clay, using their sculpting skills to make fantastic animal models inspired by artist Nick Mackman.
The children carefully shaped, moulded and added details to bring their animals to life, showing great imagination and perseverance throughout the process. We are so proud of their wonderful creations and the enthusiasm they showed during the activity!

NMPAT Strings Project
This term our parents and carers enjoyed a musical performance from 3R following their 10 week strings project with Mrs Meads from Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust - NMPAT
What a wonderful celebration of their hard work, focus and perseverance.
It was such a pleasure to watch them but also to see the pride from the audience as they saw their children take on a new challenge and achieve such fabulous results!

Remembering World War II
As part of their World War II theme, Year 4 thought about the significance of Poppies and created their own art worked based on the colours and shapes. Year 4 also worked brilliantly while creating art focused on poppy fields.
The children also made 'Spam Hash' to help them understand and explore how people managed on rations and cooked during this period of time compared to life today.
A huge well done to our amazing Year 4 children for their fantastic WWII performance too. From the wonderful songs to the brilliant dancing and confident acting, they transported us back in time and truly brought history to life. We couldn’t be prouder of every single one of them.

Explorers!
Year 5 started their Explorers topic by exploring the school grounds looking for information about different explorers they would be learning about.
Year 5 also completed their work on the DT pulley systems. They thought about how the rope can spread weight allowing heavier things to be lifted and created some fabulous results!

Farewell to our Year 6
As our Year 6 children come to the end of their time at primary school, we reflect with great pride on what has been a truly memorable final year at Standens Barn.
They have created lasting memories together, from the adventure and teamwork shown at Grafham Water, to the excitement and laughter shared on their trip to Drayton Manor. Their final weeks have been filled with celebration, including a fantastic fun day, where the many activities including a water fight brought smiles, laughter and a wonderful sense of togetherness (and it even got a special mention in the Chronicle and Echo).
Throughout the year, the children have demonstrated our BEST values and have grown into confident, resilient young people, ready for the next stage of their journey.
We are incredibly proud of each one of them. They leave us not only with their achievements, but with the friendships, memories and positive spirit they have brought to our school community.
We wish our Year 6 children every success as they move on to secondary school – you will always be a valued part of the Standens Barn family

We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 children, who recently took to the stage to perform their fantastic end-of-year production, Grossbusters!
The children have worked tirelessly in the lead up to the performances, showing real commitment, resilience and teamwork as they learned lines, songs and choreography. Their confidence and enthusiasm shone through, and they delivered a truly entertaining and memorable show..
It was wonderful to see every child play their part, both on stage and behind the scenes, demonstrating our BEST values.
A huge thank you must also go to our dedicated staff team for their hard work in bringing the production together, and to parents and carers for your continued support and patience as we changed times due to the next stages of the World Cup.

This term we held our first 'Be in to win' competition.
To celebrate the World Cup and good attendance, children who were in school for the final 4 Fridays of the term (as well as good weekly attendance) could have been in with a chance to win prizes including a new football.
It was wonderful to see the excitement this competition caused and to also have lots of children keen to come to school so they could be in with a chance of winning.
We are sure this event will make an appearance throughout the next school year!

THANK YOU!
A huge thank you to all our wonderful staff for making sure the children were well cared for and hydrated during the incredibly hot weather. Above all, they made sure the children had plenty of fun (and ice poles!).
Thank you and well done to all of our parents and carers too, for ensuring your child(ren) came to school- it did not go unnoticed how hard it was for you to do the school runs!

We are also saying goodbye to both Miss Neff and Ms Blumire, whose fixed-term contracts are coming to an end. We are very grateful for the positive contribution and dedication they have made to school life. We wish them all the BEST in their future endeavours.
We are also delighted to welcome Miss Hives back to school following her maternity leave. We look forward to her rejoining the team and know that both staff and pupils are excited to have her back!

A farewell but also a big thank you to Mrs Cobley, Mrs Smith and Mrs MacKenzie-Watson, who are sadly leaving us. This is due to fixed-term contracts coming to an end, as well as some colleagues choosing to move on to explore new opportunities and exciting challenges.
We are incredibly grateful for the care, commitment and support they have all given to our children, and we know you will join us in wishing them every success for the future.

They were so understanding and supportive following the difficult decision to cancel our recent seaside trip due to the exceptionally hot temperatures.
We know how much the children were looking forward to the visit, and we truly appreciate the flexibility, kindness and professionalism shown by KIS at very short notice. Their willingness to support us in prioritising the safety and wellbeing of our pupils meant a great deal.

Thank you to our FOSB for organising our Summer disco, our Year 6 Leavers party and for asking Pino to join us on 8th July and using funds raised to help us give each child an ice cream or ice lolly from Pino.
You may also have noticed a new outdoor tabletennis table on our playground which can be used by our children during lunchtimes and playtimes. Thank you to our FOSB but also to you as without your kind donations during the year we would be unable to provide our children with new toys and equipment.

This term, we welcomed back The McCarthy-Dixon Foundation Mobile Community Shop with a great choice of fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, tins and household items. This shop helps our community buy products at a much cheaper price and all monies donated go straight back to the charity.
|

We would be so grateful if you could offer your time, ideas and support to the Friends of Standens Barn – this may include helping at discos, collecting tuck shop sweets or just giving suggestions about how to raise money.

During our assemblies this term, the children have been focusing on BEST and how we can follow this in all areas of our lives, no matter where we are or who we are with.
We have reminded the children about what our Protected Characteristics are and how we must be tolerant and respectful and remember that we all have differences, but we are all welcome and capable of achieving wonderful things!
We have also been focusing on our 'Dare to Dream' project and sharing our aspirations and ambitions with each other. We have talked about how our protected characteristics should never hold us back and how demonstrating BEST can help our dreams come true! This project will be ongoing during the next academic year so watch this space . . .

Every day counts! 
The school doors open at 8:45am so please ensure your child(ren) arrives at school by 8:40am to ensure your child(ren) have a settled start to the school day and do not miss out on any meet-and-greet moments with staff, settling in time with their friends, but crucial literacy skills, which not only help them now but have a significant impact on their future attainment and outcomes. The gates will be closed by 9:00am.
We absolutely want our children to thrive and be the BEST that they can be, but we can only do this with your support.
We understand that juggling home life, work life and school life is tricky, but arriving to school on time is also ensuring our children are building valuable life skills for when they become adults (many of us would not arrive late to work!).
Simple ways to improve lateness is ensuring bags, packed lunches and uniforms are ready the night before. Getting to school on time may mean ensuring a good bedtime/sleep routine and setting the morning alarms a little bit earlier!
We are always here to support you so please reach out if you would like any further advice or practical help.
A reminder that holidays should not be taken during term time. Time in school really does make a difference to children’s learning, friendships and routines.

To keep all our children safe, the play equipment/trim trail on our school playground must not to be used before and after school. The equipment is only supervised during playtimes, lunchtimes and specific PE lessons.

Please remember the car park is shut between 8:30am and 9:10am and from 3:00pm until 3:30pm unless you hold a disability badge/permit for vehicles (this must be displayed clearly). Our caretaker will open the school gates when it is time to do so.

Please remember that if your child would like to bring their bike or scooter into school, they must wear a helmet.

We are committed to BEST and treating you with respect and courtesy and to be Thoughtful to you all. Our staff also have the right to work in a safe environment, so we ask that you treat them thoughtfully and with respect and courtesy. Offensive behaviour will result in you being asked to leave and may result in prosecution.

Please be Safe and Thoughtful when collecting or dropping your child(ren) off.
We understand that it can be very stressful in the mornings when we have to be in multiple places but it is vital that ALL car drivers remain courteous to all of those in our community and that they also drive and park within the law to ensure we do not hurt or harm anyone.
The Highway Code Rule 243 states that it is illegal to stop or park near the following:
- near a school entrance (including zig zag lines)
- anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services
- at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank
- on the approach to a level crossing/tramway crossing
- opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
- near the brow of a hill or hump bridge
- opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
- where you would force other traffic to enter a tram lane
- where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles
- in front of an entrance to a property
- on a bend
- where you would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities
