              TERM 5 May 2026

WELCOME  Image of school logo

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we come to the end of another busy term, I would like to take a moment to reflect on all that has been achieved across our school community over the past term.

It has been a pleasure to see the children’s enthusiasm for learning, their growing confidence, and the kindness they show to one another each day. I am incredibly proud of their hard work and progress, and grateful for the continued support we receive from families, which makes such a positive difference to school life.

We look forward to welcoming you all back on Monday 1st June at 8:45a.m (arriving at school by 8:40am) ready for the start of our last school term of the year!

I hope you all enjoy a restful break.

To celebrate the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough, our children brought in their favourite animal teddies to share with their friends. From cuddly lions to cheeky monkeys, the classrooms were full of animal adventures and smiles! They also created different pieces of artwork, made birthday cards and spent time being geographers and learning more about our wonderful world.

Happy 100th Birthday Sir David — thank you for inspiring generations to love and protect our planet and its amazing wildlife.

Wildlife Hunters!

Our Reception children have enjoyed this term's theme and all the great learning opportunities they have been given, including a wonderful outdoor learning session, collecting twigs, grass and leaves to create their very own ladybirds. They used pictures as inspiration and carefully observed and recreated their designs using natural materials. It was such a lovely way to combine creativity, nature and their observation skills!

There was also a lot of excitement in Reception as they saw a butterfly emerge from its cocoon – a rare sight!

The children also ended their term with a fabulous visit to Woburn Safari Park- they had a fabulous time and could talk about lots of exciting facts!

Let's Explore!

Year 1 and 2 have enjoyed using the VR headsets to explore the North Pole as part of their Literacy and Geography work. They then made their own artwork using what they saw as inspiration.

The children also had a great day on their school trip to the Think Tank Science Museum in Birmingham. They all had fun exploring the different worlds, including 'Mini Brum', 'The Science Garden' and 'Our World'.

They were all so well-behaved and followed BEST throughout the day. Well done!

Shoetacular

As part of year 3’s shoe theme they enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Northampton Museum & Art Gallery

The children enjoyed discovering the rich history of Northampton’s famous shoe industry, learning how the town became known around the world for its craftsmanship. They were fascinated by the stories, tools, and designs from the past!

They also had fun exploring the exciting dinosaur exhibition.

Following their visit, Year 3 have been busy designing and making shoes using mod roc and empty milk cartons. Their final designs are amazing!

Brrrrr- Icy conditions in Year 4

Year 4 have completed some amazing DT work as part of their theme 'Ice'. They have researched Artic and Antarctic animals and used this information to create amazing moving fact cards. They showed brilliant concentration and resilience to construct and test some tricky working mechanisms - well done everyone!

Exciting Egyptians

Year 5 have had their first attempt at sawing this term in preparation for their Egyptian Tombs DT project! Everyone used the saw showing amazing safety and bravery (even if it was a bit tricky!). The children worked incredibly hard to measure, cut and stick their frames together. Well done!

The Great Wave!

Year 6 have been exploring the art of lino cutting inspired by the famous Japanese artist Hokusai.

Using careful carving techniques and bold printing methods, the children created their own striking designs inspired by Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, including the iconic Great Wave. We are so impressed with their creativity, patience and attention to detail — every print was unique!

Well done Year 6!

We would like to say a huge well done to our Year 6 children for the fantastic effort they have shown during SATs week.

They approached the week with maturity, resilience and a positive attitude, and we are incredibly proud of how hard they worked and supported one another throughout.

Whatever the outcomes, they should be very proud of themselves.

A big thank you to all of their parents/carers too- we are incredibly grateful for the support you have shown to them (and us) during the preparation time and during the week itself.

Gardening Club

Hail, sunshine and rain… nothing stops our Gardening Club!

The children have loved planting flowers and getting their hands muddy outdoors. When the rain arrived, they switched to their fun craft of making mini flower pots to stay warm and dry before heading back outside again!

Gardening Club have also been busy upgrading our old Bug Hotel and what a transformation!

What started as a simple box has now become a luxury 5⭐ bug hotel! Using twigs, pine cones, wood and a range of natural materials, the children carefully designed and built a cosy home for our minibeast visitors.

A fantastic mix of creativity, teamwork and outdoor learning — we can’t wait to see who checks in first!

Well done Gardening Club, you are all working really hard!

A big shout out to our amazing Playground Helpers!

A special mention to our playground monitors for taking such great care of the younger children, organising fun activities, and helping to get all the play equipment out each day. Your kindness, responsibility and teamwork make such a difference to everyone’s playtime.

What a fabulous example to others you all are! Thank you and well done!

The Big Sing

For many weeks, our choir have been busy rehearsing and preparing masks ready for the Big Sing with the final concert taking place on Wednesday 20th May. They were all superstars and the evening was full of joy and children absolutely demonstrating BEST.

Thank you to all those parents and siblings who came along to support their child and our school- it really does make a difference when they see your face in the crowd, and it really does help with their confidence and enjoyment.

This term, we had our first visits from The McCarthy-Dixon Foundation Mobile Community Shop with a great choice of fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, tins and household items.

This shop helps our community buy products at a much cheaper price and all monies donated go straight back to the charity.

We also held a mufti day for this charity and wish to thank you all for your kind donations. We raised £500 which will be shared between The McCarthy-Dixon Foundation and towards playground equipment for our children.

We would be so grateful if you could offer your time, ideas and support to the Friends of Standens Barn – this may include helping at discos, collecting tuck shop sweets or just giving suggestions about how to raise money.

If you are interested, please contact the main school office on 01604 413151or email us at sbps-admin@sbps.inmat.org.uk and we will be in touch!

During our assemblies this term, the children have been focusing on BEST and how we can follow this in all areas of our lives, no matter where we are or who we are with.

We have reminded the children about what our Protected Characteristics are and how we must be tolerant and respectful and remember that we all have differences, but we are all welcome.

A big thank you to Jenna from The McCarthy-Dixon Foundation for visiting our school. She spoke to the children about the important work the charity does and helped them understand how they support others in the community. The session was engaging, thoughtful and really inspired our pupils to think about kindness and helping those in need.

If you would like to find out more about this wonderful charity then please give them a follow on Facebook or Instagram.

This term, the children have been sharing and discussing the following books with their teachers:

Reception: The Blue Chameloen

Year 1 and 2: I Love Me

Year 3: Beegu

Year 4: Dog's Don't Do Ballet

Year 5: My Shadow is Pink

Year 6: The Leaf

Term time holidays  Image of alarm clock

A gentle reminder that holidays should not be taken during term time. Time in school really does make a difference to children’s learning, friendships and routines.

The school doors open at 8:45am so please ensure your child(ren) arrives at school by 8:40am to ensure your child(ren) have a settled start to the school day and do not miss out on any meet-and-greet moments with staff, settling in time with their friends, but crucial literacy skills, which not only help them now but have a significant impact on their future attainment and outcomes. The gates will be closed by 9:00am.

We absolutely want our children to thrive and be the BEST that they can be, but we can only do this with your support.

We understand that juggling home life, work life and school life is tricky, but arriving to school on time is also ensuring our children are building valuable life skills for when they become adults (many of us would not arrive late to work!).

Simple ways to improve lateness is ensuring bags, packed lunches and uniforms are ready the night before. Getting to school on time may mean ensuring a good bedtime/sleep routine and setting the morning alarms a little bit earlier!

We are always here to support you so please reach out if you would like any further advice or practical help.

Thank you for your cooperation and ensuring your child's future is a bright one!

Reminders

  • To keep all our children safe, the play equipment/trim trail on our school playground must not to be used before and after school. The equipment is only supervised during playtimes, lunchtimes and specific PE lessons.

  • Please remember the car park is shut between 8:30am and 9:10am and from 3:00pm until 3:30pm unless you hold a disability badge/permit for vehicles (this must be displayed clearly). Our caretaker will open the school gates when it is time to do so.

  • Please remember that if your child would like to bring their bike or scooter into school, they must wear a helmet.

  • We are committed to BEST and treating you with respect and courtesy and to be Thoughtful to you all. Our staff also have the right to work in a safe environment, so we ask that you treat them thoughtfully and with respect and courtesy. Offensive behaviour will result in you being asked to leave and may result in prosecution.

Parking

Please be Safe and Thoughtful when collecting or dropping your child(ren) off.

We understand that it can be very stressful in the mornings when we have to be in multiple places but it is vital that ALL car drivers remain courteous to all of those in our community and that they also drive and park within the law to ensure we do not hurt or harm anyone.

The Highway Code Rule 243 states that it is illegal to stop or park near the following:

  • near a school entrance (including zig zag lines)
  • anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services
  • at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank
  • on the approach to a level crossing/tramway crossing
  • opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
  • near the brow of a hill or hump bridge
  • opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
  • where you would force other traffic to enter a tram lane
  • where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles
  • in front of an entrance to a property
  • on a bend
  • where you would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities
