WELCOME  Image of school logo

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been an amazing start to the new school year and it has been a delight to welcome many new children, families and staff to our school community. They are all showing our BEST values and have settled brilliantly into school life- well done to them all!

We have had a fantastic first term with many exciting learning opportunities, events and experiences and we are looking forward to what comes next throughout the rest of this academic year.

Thank you for your ongoing and valued support and for helping us achieve such a great start.

I hope you all enjoy a restful break and we look forward to seeing you on Monday 3rd November. Please remember to arrive for 8:40 am ready for the beginning of Term 2.

UNIFORM REMINDER 2025

At Standens Barn Primary School, we believe that a school uniform gives our children a sense of belonging and community and encourages them to feel proud of the school they attend.

Your child's uniform and PE uniform should be plain in the correct school colours or have our school logo on it. Your child must also arrive every day with a named refillable water bottle which they can use throughout the school day, including when they eat their lunch.

As part of our policy, please ensure that earrings are moved prior to PE lessons (children can take them out themselves before the lesson and put them back in again straight away when the lesson has ended). Plasters will not be given to cover them as injury can still occur. If children wish to have their ears pierced, we encourage you to do this at the beginning of the summer school holdays so ears have time to heal and children have time to practice removing/replacing the earrings before returning to school. We really do appreciate your support with this.

All staff will be monitoring uniform standards and ensuring our policy is adhered to throughout the school year so we maintain our high standards, and we look like a team to which we all want to belong.

Please use the link below for detailed descriptions of our uniform expectations:

Cadbury World

As part of their unit of learning this term, Year 4 have designed their own chocolate creations. They also went on an exciting trip to Cadbury World. They all had a wonderful day learning about the journey of chocolate and how it is made.

They also arrived home with lots of wonderful Cadbury treats!

Where does our food come from?

Year 1 and 2 had a great time visiting our local Tesco. The children looked at lots of different foods, where they come from and whether they are grown, farmed or caught. Some of the packaging had flags on which helped them to know where the food comes from and tied in well with their Geography learning. They also loved the Autumnal walk as they were able to spot deciduous and evergreen trees, which they have talked about in Science. It was clear that the children have remembered lots of their learning from the term.

Tudor World

Year 5 had an excellent day at Tudor World.

They learnt all about Tudor history, Tudor crime and punishment and they also had a tour of Stratford-upon-Avon with Shakespeare!

Back in school, the children also made their own Tudor inspired pasties- they looked and smelt delicious! Next time, we hope they make extras so we can have a try!

Introducing our Magnificent Mind Champions

Some of our Year 5 and 6 children completed a day of Magnificent Mind training with Claire from Pacesetter Sports & Wellbeing.

Magnificent Mind Champions support our school by promoting positive mental health and wellbeing amongst all the children in school. These enthusiastic children will be great role models who organise activities at lunchtimes for others to enjoy.

Last year there were many events organised by the FOSB, these included 3 discos and a leavers party for our Year 6 children, the Easter Egg raffle and the Chocolate Tombola at our Winter Barnanza. As a result of these events, and your very kind donations, we have been able to provide a donation to our chosen charity, McCarthy Dixon foundation, and lots of treats for our children (such as cinema trips, subsidised school visits and ice cream and ice poles).

The FOSB are still saving our donations to help us continue our improvements to our playground and field. We would like to have more play equipment (gym equipment) and we would also like to have a pathway around the perimeter of the main field so the children can walk around this area during the winter months. These costs may amount to approximately £15 000 so we have a little more saving to do!

The FOSB and the above events, and extra opportunities for our children, all rely on volunteers, both staff and parents/carers, offering their wonderful support!

If you are interested in offering your time, ideas and support to the Friends of Standens Barn then please contact the main school office on 01604 413151or email us at sbps-admin@sbps.inmat.org.uk and we will be in touch!

This term the children enjoyed a Halloween disco and we were blown away by the efforts you all made with their costumes- wow!

Thank you to DJ High and DJ Hern and to all the staff who volunteered their own time to help set up and organise the disco but who also dressed up, danced and had fun with the children so everyone could have a great time!

Your support and monies raised from tickets and the tuck shop meant we raised over £1000 which, as explained above, will be used to ensure we continue to improve the playground opportunities and resources available to our children.

SBPS SCHOOL LEADERSHIP TEAM

This term many children demonstrated both Brave and Enthusiastic and applied to become a House Captain.

Together our House Captains form our School Leadership Team and they play a valuable part in school life. They offer their support at many events including parents evenings, new open days, sports days and they also meet with visitors too but they also help make school decisions and have an impact on wider school life.

The applications we received were of an incredibly high standard, which made it very difficult for the panel to decide on who the successful applicants should be.

A huge well done to our new House Captains- we look forward to working alongside you, watching you lead and continue to demonstrate BEST to our visitors and children.

Many other children also applied to undertake other leadership roles in school, including lunchtime and assembly monitors. These roles have huge responsibility in our school as they help manage, organise and lead other children and equipment – we would not be without them! Well done to all of those who were successful.

In assemblies this term, we have introduced BEST to our new children and revisited our values with those who know them well. We have discussed what it means to be Brave, Enthusiastic, Safe and Thoughtful in all areas of our lives and how these values should be demonstrated to all of those we meet and by all of those in our school community – children, staff and parents/carers.

These are values that can also be used in the home – consistency helps children to understand boundaries and BEST can be useful reminders if they are perhaps not following your expectations but can also be used as reasons when offering praise and rewards.

The children have signed their BEST class agreements, and we will continue to embed BEST in all parts of school life everyday throughout the school year and remind our children that ‘The true test of BEST is how we behave when no one is watching’.

Our Friday assemblies are one of our favourite parts of the week, we really enjoy seeing our children succeed and be Brave enough to share their accomplishments with the rest of our school. During this time, we celebrate class attendance, both in and out of school achievements, home learning and our BEST of the week children and we also lsitent and enjoy uplifiting songs as we come in and out!

This term we have also celebrated our first Bronze award winners- this means they have achieved 50 smiley faces so well done to them all!

Our school continues to celebrate being a No Outsiders school- we encourage inclusion and acceptance and remind our children that we are ‘all different, all welcome’ to prepare them for the world in which they live.

We hold regular whole school and class-based assemblies with follow on lessons which look at examples of diversity and inclusion that exist round us.

The lessons allow our children to debate comfortably and safely whilst acknowledging that different ideas exist, and we are all different but we all belong.

This term, the children have been sharing and discussing the following books with their teachers:

Reception: Hello Hello

Year 1 and 2: How to be a Lion

Year 3: This is Our House

Year 4: Red Crayon Story

Year 5: The Girls

Year 6: You Need to Chill

October is Black History Month. This month we have investigated the theme of ‘Their Service, Our History’.

Each class have used this theme to find out about the service of different people. The themes have been: helping hands, service in our community, service in history and legacy of service.

Reminders

  • To keep all our children safe, the play equipment/trim trail on our school playground must not to be used before and after school. The equipment is only supervised during playtimes, lunchtimes and specific PE lessons.

  • Please remember the car park is shut between 8:30am and 9:10am and from 3:00pm until 3:30pm unless you hold a disability badge/permit for vehicles (this must be displayed clearly). Our caretaker will open the school gates when it is time to do so.

  • Please remember that if your child would like to bring their bike or scooter into school, they must wear a helmet.

  • We are committed to BEST and treating you with respect and courtesy and to be Thoughtful to you all. Our staff also have the right to work in a safe environment, so we ask that you treat them thoughtfully and with respect and courtesy. Offensive behaviour will result in you being asked to leave and may result in prosecution.

Parking

Please be Safe and Thoughtful when collecting or dropping your child(ren) off.

We understand that it can be very stressful in the mornings when we have to be in multiple places but it is vital that ALL car drivers remain courteous to all of those in our community and that they also drive and park within the law to ensure we do not hurt or harm anyone.

The Highway Code Rule 243 states that it is illegal to stop or park near the following:

  • near a school entrance (including zig zag lines)
  • anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services
  • at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank
  • on the approach to a level crossing/tramway crossing
  • opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
  • near the brow of a hill or hump bridge
  • opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
  • where you would force other traffic to enter a tram lane
  • where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles
  • in front of an entrance to a property
  • on a bend
  • where you would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities
